Image Compositing

Hybrid imagery is two or multiple images being used to make one image. These types of photos are created to make the viewer more interested in the image. This rule is four lines intersecting at certain points and is said if you make the main subject on one of the intersecting lines than the photo will have more impact, in some cases the rule can be broken only if there is a better impact not to follow it. The rule of thirds is used to make the photo "more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally," stated in an article named Rule of Thirds by Darren Rowse. I agree with this because many of photos taken that use the rule of thirds and are very more interesting. One example of using the rule of thirds would be incorrectly framing wrong and having the subject not exactly on the intersection. Professional photographers think about what they want to include in the photo and what not to. I believe some photos should be edited with a good reasoning. If the photographer believes the photo needs more or less color than that would be a good reason. Another example would be if the photo has too much exposure to the sun than the photographer would lower the brightness to give the photo more quality.

The strongest message I want to communicate through my best composite image concept would be "With growth comes peace." I chose this as my best image composite because we become more accepting of who we are and become at peace with it and express it even more. In one of my images there is a hand doing a peace sign using flat angle, than in a couple more images there is flowers with a semi blurry background. My image will communicate this message because the hand will represent peace and usually flowers symbolizes growth. I made the background behind the hand black so the focus point is peace sign with flowers growing out of it. I anticipate the location where the viewers eyes will go to the flowers first because the contrast of the yellow is bolder than the peace sign.

Visual Statement

Our topic for the video is knowing that popularity isn't the most important thing in high school. This topic is important to us because we both became confident in ourselves and becoming happy without changing who we really are . The goal for this project is to have a 2-3 minute long video with a specific message. We need to put in background music either from "Garage Band" or from a royalty free website. My partner, Sharon, had the role of lead writer. We helped each other with both roles. She helped me film and I helped write the script. Working together helped us complete certain parts of the project faster.

As we started working on our visual statement project we learned different tips and tricks to make our video more impactful. For example, the graphic match cut, which is the matching of movement in different sceneries, we are using this trick in one of our scenes to tie a sad scene with a happy one. Using FCPX libraries, events, and projects properly is important because keeping everything, as in videos, audios and pictures, in the right places so they are organized and not lost. Audio levels in different clips can vary drastically because of how close or how far the phone or camera is from the object being filmed. To correctly balance the audio that the audience hears you would have to adjust the volume or decibels of the clip. I think the video displays the higher quality because of clarity and the visuals show what is going on. The audience can infer on what is going on in the video without the audio.

My biggest challenge for this project is the "Graphic Match Cut" between scenes. To overcome this problem I rewatched the tutorial video and asked some friends to help me also. I feel like I drove the project to the project goal and I helped the project process by helping Sharon with the script and editing it. The most enjoyable part of this project is filming because laughing comes naturally to both of us so getting a real laugh or smile on film wasn't hard. Being able to work with someone like Sharon makes me smile. It was hard for me to film the sad scenes because she is just naturally a happy person and so am I. After seeing the results I do agree with them. Our results came out as we expected and what we thought we deserved. There is always a few people who disagree, and I respect their opinion, but we worked our hardest and had fun. We made one of the top three videos that will be sent to  "HIKI NŌ" and we are proud that our classmates voted for us. Congrats to the other two teams.

Modern Art Movement

In my presentation the cultural movement that gave rise to Feminist Art is the Feminist Theory, which is the understanding of gender inequality. My art movement has an influence on the arts and communication industry because now women have more job opportunities. Artists contribute and fulfill a social need in their artwork in many ways. For example, the "Guerrilla Girls" showed facts in their work. " Do women have to have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum? Less than 5% of the artists in the Modern Art Sections are women, but 85% of the nudes are female." I think Feminist Art is very powerful and I like the fact that the art is showing some very important messages.

"Point and Shoot" by Martha Rosler 2008

I chose this art piece because I get the message that women are categorized into joining the model industry when there's more important roles out there, like being a soldier for the country. I do think a single artist with many pieces has the ability to persuade someone's opinion on women. In feminist artwork there is meaning and if someone explained it to another person than maybe they'll change their mind. In my opinion technology advances aided the cultural impact of skilled art production by having more digital media artwork pieces. The more advance technology gets the more advance the artwork gets. The use of technology also helped the distribution of the pieces worldwide.

Workplace Safety

The project goal of the safety video was to show proper sitting, standing, and usage of stairs. My teammates, Michael and Tara, are very friendly and fun people to work with. I'm happy I got to be in their group. In the group, we had similar roles to contribute which was filming each other's scenes and helping create the script and visual plan. I feel like I deserve recognition for giving my best effort because I directed most of the scenes and gave some good ideas. My team also gave their best effort and I couldn't have come up with the ideas without them.

The biggest "takeaway" in this project would be the stair scene where Michael falls down the stairs because after our video played the audience remembered that particular scene. I learned more about communication in developing this video because when there was a new scene we would talk to each other about what angle would look better in the video and how each actor would react in the ways appropriate to the audio being said. Our highest score was on "Entertainment Value" and I agree with this because even my teammates laughed at some parts of the video. Our lowest score was under "Clarity of Audio" which I agree and disagree on because only the beginning had a stumble, but I don't really believe it deserved our lowest score. The confines that came with this project like wind, the iPad, and some windy areas we worked around. We moved around to find the quietest place to film our audio. The cameraman/women would use the shooting stances to make the footage more steady. I think our team could've had more visual shots to increase our production value of our finished video.
